How to choose a Monogram

Monograms are wonderful additions to your existing linen collections or for all future choices.  The best uses for Monograms is to absolutely make the fabric your own.  Can't decide what bed sheets go where, put a little monogram in the upper right or left corner. If monogramming the big stuffer pillow use the corner that is opposite to line them up and be seen.  Top sheets in the middle is best, and for Coverlets definately dead center is best.  We have a chart here that is supplied by Matouk a perveyor of fine linens around the globe.
Handkerchiefs are a fantastic monogram item. Men or Women handkies can be monogrammed with the first initial of the first name. Since a handkerchief is for 1 person, this is best choice.  Have an Uncle Charlie , choose C. F&B Linen sells the ready monogrammed single initials for Men's and Women's handkerchiefs.
Dinner napkins can be monogramed with the family's Last name. Since dinner is an overall family event this is best choice. Of course, if you choose the largest 27x27 size dinner napkins you can add a fancy scroll pattern or family crest insignia.  Monogramms can be as little as 1/2 inch to a grand size of 2 1/2 inch in one corner of the napkin. Some who really love monogramms enjoy the one corner 2 1/2 inch monogram and then the 3 smaller 1/2 inch monogram in remaining corners.  This would be perfect on a nice white hemstitched Italian linen napkin size 22x22 or 24x24 inches square.
Placemats is just about up to you, surely to be placed on the side left or right of center.  Best and most popular is the left side with the 3 letters for the Bride, Groom and Last name.  Or , if for your personal dining events, your own First, Middle and Last name initials.  Placemats in Italian white hemstitched fabric is most formal.  Across the top of the placemat is a good idea as well, just leave room for that fine china plate!
Hand towels for the powder room can be monogrammed and make wonderful gifts.  Usually , an initial of the Family name is prominently displayed in the center about 3 inches up from the end of the towel.  You can choose thread colors for each season if you like, that is the most fun decision.
Bath towels usually for the family take on the initial of the last name.  More over, the first initial and last initial or even middle initial can be placed on the bath sheet or bath towel. For an even display, the family last name initial is best and up the the 3 inches tall in thread color of your choice.
The monograms can always go anywhere. The best choice depends on how personal the item is for the intended.
